What Colour Are Your Gadgets?

This may sound like an odd question to ask, why are we so addicted to black gadgets, it does make me wonder. The majority of people know by now that we are a nation of gadget lovers. Whatever your best gadget is, whether it’s a iPod, phone or netbook. We all have a handful of gadgets that we never leave the house without.

However, when it comes to choosing which gadgets to buy, why are we always drawn to the same colour, black.

This question came to me after I read an article about Nintendo releasing their black version of the Wii in November. Nintendo said that with the release of their black edition console, they expect to see a sales boost. However, why would they think that just because they release their console in a new colour that would get a sales boost. It’s not like their competitors have made considerably more sales due to having black consoles. In fact, more Nintendo Wii’s have been sold that their competitor consoles, and the Wii is white.

The question of popular gadget colour can spread to a number of different gadget markets. You can take the mobile phone market as one example. When the iPhone was released, the black backed version sold out well before the white backed. Really you can take any phone, just look at the available phones, you will see that the majority of them come in black.

Television are yet more gadgets where the colour question can be asked. A few years back, the main colours for TV were black and silver, hell you could even buy blue or pink if you wanted. However, now you will struggle to find a TV that’s any colour but black.

Nowadays, most gadgets that are released are available in black, from binary watches to novelty alarm clocks. It’s hard to see what the facination of black gadgets is. Even though black gadgets don’t show the dirt as much, they do attract alot of dust quickly. Plus, if a black gadget gets damaged, the marks are more visible than if it was silver or white.

For those of you who are not huge black gadget fans, for the time being, you can still get some other colours. Although this might change soon, for the time being you can still get yourself a candy grabby without the only available colour being black. As for the question of black gadgets, I have no idea, maybe someone else has a better idea?
