Green Technologies

It is a known fact that the world is under tremendous effect of global warming. They even predicted the massive decrease of the polar ice caps by the year 2050. This is probably the most dreary news we have ever heard in years. Although our future may seem bleak, it is never too late to do your part.

Everywhere you look there are greener alternatives to modern day objects. Solar panels are becoming more and more popular. Earth ships or green homes are sprouting everywhere. Several technologies aimed towards saving and preserving the environment are being created. If you want to do your part and reduce your carbon footprint, why not try some of these greener, eco-friendly technological solutions?

Spin That Lamp

Ever seen a lamp that is powered by winding the handle? There are plenty of those available in the market but nothing as creative as the dynamic light. Experts have produced eco-globe lamp prototypes that actually provide you enough lighting while you work or read. For as long as you spin the lamp like a typical Floor Globe, you can keep it charged.

Unfortunately, the lamps are still works in progress and it will be years until we can actually buy one as replacement for our incandescent desk lamps. So keep your finger crossed and watch out impact on the electric bill.

What you need is an energy meter that can help you shave off 10 to 20 percent of your monthly electric bill. How does it do this? Well, by simply measuring how much electricity you are using right at any given moment. Once you see the reality of your electric usage displayed on its tiny monitor, you’ll have no choice but to perform actions to reduce it.

Harnessing the Power of the Sun

Many of us have seen many products that harness the power of the sun. Nowadays, solar panels are plastered on every kind of object imaginable: from calculators, to houses’ roofs to Electronics Charging Station. There are even solar panels included with the conventional outdoor lanterns.

Solar lanterns are definitely useful for campers and outdoorsmen. In case you run out of batteries while camping, you’d still have enough lighting. All you have to do is to leave the solar lantern outside and let it soak on some sunlight. On the down side, though, the brightness of the lantern mainly depends on the intensity of the sun. But hey, who said there isn’t any sun at night? You’ll still have enough light source while camping outside even though it is nighttime.
