Do You Think Tv May Die Someday?

I always thought so. Like the pagers became obsolete, TV will too even if minorities use them (a very small number of people still use pagers). With the advent of internet TV is likely to go into history but the problem is there is a lot of money to be had with PPV and cable subscriptions so this people are likely to create a TV resistance.

I think the future will be computer based entertainment and your old plasma will be an obsolete redundant monitor for your comp or a luxury for the exuberant(50" Plasmas and so on). Or maybe even projectors but I think that's less likely.

If you think TV may die, how long do you think it will take before a full transition (the majority of the people change), and if you don't think it's going to happen, why do you think so? Do you think TV can evolve through the new developments like 3-D?

Suggestion:

>Do you think TV may die someday?

No. At least not until civilization as we know it collapses.

>Do you think TV can evolve through the new developments like 3-D?

Of course TV will evolve. It's been evolving ever since it was introduced in the 1930s! Pretty soon the cost of adding 3-D to a television will be negligible, so it will become a standard feature.

>With the advent of Internet TV is likely to go into history

Internet TV is TV! Only the way of transmitting signals has changed. Nothing new here. Originally all TV was sent by over the air signals. Then cable came along, then satellite. Internet TV is just the latest part of the evolution of TV.

>I think the future will be computer based entertainment

In the future, TVs will incorporate computers. Some already do to a limited extent.

>problem is there is a lot of money to be had with PPV and cable subscriptions

Good content costs money to create. Most of the time good actors don't work for free.

>your old plasma will be an obsolete redundant monitor for your comp

While plasma technology will fade away, flat screen TVs similar to those being sold now will be in common use for a long, long time.

Why? Because over the last 100 years people have consistently shown that they like to be entertained by moving pictures that take up a moderate amount of their field of view.

>Like the pagers became obsolete,

Not similar at all.

Pagers became obsolete when cell phones became small & cheap enough to be practical for ordinary people.

Getting rid of cable & sattellite is not the same as getting rid of TV. Receiving TV programing with an antenna or internet streaming is still TV!

Hopefully but probably not. It'll rule the United States as long as they can keep violence and sex in your living room at all times.

I think you're thinking too narrowly on the TV as a technology. I think the bigger picture concerns societal needs of a group/family/tribe. Since time memorial, people need to gravitate together and be entertained. From gathering around the campfire, to the family radio to the TV. For the TV to "die" either humans stop needing a social outlet for entertainment or it is replaced by something else. I can't see people hovering together around a PC unless the PC for all intents and purposes acts like a TV. So a computer hooked up to a large monitor is really a TV.

Unless your talking about traditional TV content and programming. That I see changing and going to a different distribution model with PPV, Internet Streaming, YouTube-like content, etc.

Now we are starting to see some very interesting changes in TVs right now. LED TVs for example. The new bio electric TVs that are starting to be tested. The 3D holographic style that are being researched. I think that the TV will not ever truly disappear but it will be absorbed by the PC and the internet. Notice how the TVs over the last few years all have USB and PC ports! They are trying to bundle Digital TV with Internet capabilities. I think this is the beginning of the Home Entertainment System Gateway was trying to put out back in the 90s but the tech just wasn't there. I give it another 5 to ten years and the TV will be even more integrated into our lives not pushed out. Imagine the new touchscreen technology. TVs on the walls to make video calls to people, watch the news, or even change the scenery "Channel".
