Why Does My Sony Wega 55″ TV Screen Blank Out Whenever A Bright Image Appears?

Every time something bright (such as a commercial with a lot of white space, or a bright explosion scene) comes on my TV screen, the TV blanks out for a few seconds, then returns to a normal display when the bright image is gone. I have a Sony Wega 55" (KDF55XS95) LCD TV that I bought in 2005. I've had the cable company check the incoming cable line and even replace the converter box, but the problem still persists. (I don't have the problem on any of my other TV's) Does anyone know what the problem is?

Answer:

Be thankful you don't have the (was a class action lawsuit) bad light engine symptom of "blue dots."

Anyway, to answer your question: Because it can't stand the spotlight?
