Suggestion:
The backlight inverter has most likely gone. Depending on the age of the TV which i'm guessing is up to 6yrs old whether you decide to get it repaired or to buy a replacement TV. I'm afraid even in that amount of time it is a very long time in the world of TVs nowadays.
