What Part Do I Need to Replace in My Sony Bravia Lcd Tv?

i have a sony bravia 42' LCD tv and if you turn it on the screen won't turn on, but there is a red light that flashes four times and stops. before this it had a weird blinking problem with the display. it would blink really fast and have a fuzzy picture. later on, the top half of the screen went dimmer than the rest. i didn't do anything about it personally because it is not MY tv, but one in my basement that my sister likes to use, and she never complained. i just wanted to know what part it is that i could buy to fix this problem, as song want to charge me $500 to fix it… thanks!

Answer:

sounds like a power supply problem to me.

That blinking light is the stand by supply. really easy to change if you know anyone who knows what they're doing.

sounds like it can be the LCD back light or it's inverter circuit.

unless you get it on the warranty, repair service and replacements tends to be a bit on the pricy side .
query a search-engine for ~ DIY LCD backlight fix ( or hack )
you will find several haxx and trixx,,to look through,
often using unorthodoxe parts and solutions.
everything from McGyver like quickfixes to the more elaborate hardware hacker geek.projects.

The more you try and fix it yourself the more it is going to cost you!

This forum can only offer possible causes – we cannot do a diagnosis without seeing the TV!

That is the problem with Sony products – the most expensive to repair (if they have a Sony replacement part!). My Sony CPU hard drive crapped out, my wifes Sony laptop's rechargeable battery pack crapped out – no replacement anywhere in the world, my Wireless headphones rechargeable battery pack crapped out – no replacement can be found!)

Had same tv with same problem … had to replace the power supply — it was a 200$ part. So if your not good with electronics, the $500 starts looking more reasonable.
