I have an LG 32' LCD TV, model LG30R, and a DVD Player, Mitashi DHD-911 with HDMI Output, when i bought the DVD Player and the LCD TV, i could watch the DVD movies in full 16:9, but of late the the same DVD disc plays in Letterbox mode, (Black stripes on top and bottom), all the adjusting in the TV set and DVD Player didn't gave any results, what could be the problem??
The DVD Player is connected to the LCD TV with HDMI Cable.
Please help!!
Suggestion:
Ok, Some (mostly new) movies are recorded in wider than 16:9 aspect ratio. It is 21:9 (or something similar) thus wider than you TV, and that is why you have black bars on the top and bottom. There is no image to be displayed thus it is black.
If as you say that your old DVD's played in 16:9 before, you could have had your TV aspect ratio set at "stretch to 16:9" that means your TV will stretch all your input video to 16:9, and now you have disabled it.
What image looked more natural to you? full 16:9 or now with black bars. By that I mean did the faces look fatter now or before?
In any case you should change the TV's aspect ratio. On my TV I have a button on the remote that says "P.SIZE" (it is samsung though). If not try playing around with TV menu to see if you find something like size, playback, aspect or video options. If however normal television programing looks fine (channel 3, 5, 7, …) It might be in your DVD player setting. Look harder!
If all else fails consult your manual or call up the manufacturer.
