Freeview Problems Through Video?

My Aunt has a LCD with integrated freeview and was connecting the TV to her video player. She was able to view channels 1-5 through the video but wasnt able to record any of the freeview channels. When she had her old tv and external freeview she was bale to recorded her freeview no problem.

I am due to go through to visit her and I was going ot take a look at this for her, she has called and said that she has paid a TV installer £68! He told her the tv was only single analogue (or something) and she wouldnt be able to record her freeview in tv to video, told her that she would anly be able to record from an external box as tv not dual? He sold her a external freebox (£25) another scart (£2) and charged her £41 call out!!!!

Is this correct?? Surely ALL tv's with integrated freeview should beable to record through an external source????? Looking for advise as she is in her 60's and the thought of her getting ripped off is annoying me.

Suggestion:

The TV only has one Freeview tuner, so will only record the channel watched, even if it has a video output to connect to a video or DVD recorder. That's what the installer probably meant.

Few Freeview TV's have 2 tuners, but some DVD and video recorders have 2 Freeview tuners, so will record one channel whilst you watch a different one using a SCART lead input to the TV.

£41 sounds a bit steep though for a call out.

To buy the same stuff (Freeview box & Scart) from the high street would be perhaps £25.

No, he's correct. She has to use an ariel splitter, possibly with a booster and a freeview box connected to her video to be able to record, unless she wants to record the same station that she's watching. To do that she'd need to have a video out connection from her TV to the video, assuming that the tv provides one. The TV only has one freeview decoder built into it, it can't receive two stations at the same time.
