Plasma or Lcd Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelp?

I've been working lots over the festive period and need/want a new TV, my old sony widescreen (crt) tv is nearing it's end, the remote sensor doesn't work so we've to get up just to change the volume lol.
I've seen a couple TVs i like, in my price range BUT, i'm not too sure of which to go for.
The LCDs i've seen are a good price and size and in 1080 but watching normal non High-Def TV channels on them can look a little blocky and fuzzy whereas I've always wanted a plasma because i've NEVER seen one looking bad BUT the plasma TVs i've seen in my size/price range are only 720. Which kind of TV should i go for? I watch a lot of tv, play PS3 and watch DVD/BlueRay.
Is there a noticeable difference between 720 and 1080?
I did notice the Sky Sports demo in the shop looked impressive on the 720 plasma but looked brighter more vivid on the LCD.
Why is it so difficult to choose a TV these days? :)
Is it worth going for 1080 if the only 1080 device i have is my PS3 as Sky is broadcast at 720?

Answer:

Hi,

Plasmas are really better quality than LCD and TFT (the latter is a slightly better version of LCD).
The image is better. However, you only really get plasmas in 40" or bigger.
Plasmas are being slowly dropped out of the market as well because LCDs are more economical power – wise and they consequently have a slightly longer "life".
If you have a PS3 it is worth a Full HD as you will probably appreciate the image quality as well as with Blu-Ray but you are right in thinking that TV channels do not yet emit in 1080.
I would choose an LCD for its longer shelf life and energy economy but would go for a 1080.
Why don't you try your local Cash Converters or Cash Generators shop for a decent priced TV? You'll find that sometimes they have good quality newish TVs bought from manufacturers stocks or reconditioned customer returns and you will likely save 30-40% on the purchase price of a new TV.
Or you could take a look at ebay. There may be people selling unwanted Christmas presents around now!

ive a plasma and its fantastic,i have noticed the increase in electric, and another point i can make is,if you play a lot of games, don't leave them on pause for a long period of time as this can cause burnout on the screen.also for the plasma get the higest screen resolution you can afford to get, otherwise the blacks wont be as black if you get that.mines a samsung 42 inch?

go for a LCD tv 1080p will be perfect for your ps3 blu rays and sky HD if you ever upgrade

Just make sure you go for a sony as there superb ask anyone
