My Favourite War Films

I love war movies and series. I have been fascinated with action scenes especially with battles and how men and women fight for what they believe in. It gets my blood pumping with adrenaline and excitement every time I see a character in army clothing, especially if the character is dressed in full battle gear! I have here a list of some of my most unforgettable movies about war and soldiers.

First on my list is the 1986 film Platoon. It is a film by Oliver Stone and stars Tom Berenger, Willem Dafoe and Charlie Sheen. The movie is historically based on the Vietnam War with Charlie Sheen’s character leaving college to do his duty. The film depicts several combat scenes where men in army clothing plunged into blood feud and frustration. One of the turning points in the movie is when they saw their one of their comrade’s mutilated body. A true war classic!

“Only the dead have seen the end of war”, the opening line of the movie Black Hawk Down. The film was directed by Ridley Scott which also boasts an all star cast that includes Josh Hartnett, Ewan McGregor, Tom Sizemore, Eric Bana, William Fichtner, Ewen Bremner, and Sam Shepard. The action scenes of the movie are so fast paced that you couldn’t keep your eyes off the screen! It’s an adrenalin-filled film with men in army clothing torn between a raid and a rescue mission.

Another film that made it on my list is All Quiet on the Western Front. It is actually a television movie released in 1979. It’s a film by Delbert Mann; Richard Thomas and Ernest Borgnine took on the lead roles. The film is about the horrors of war and how it affects the lives of young men who enlisted themselves in the military. It’s a tragic movie that goes on the suffering of the characters and how they lost each lives after the next. Nonetheless it portrays the reality of people in army clothing during war.

Glory, a film about the American Civil war released in 1989 is another favourite. It is a drama war film starring Matthew Broderick and Denzel Washington. What’s notable about Glory is that it’s not only about war and combat tactics by soldiers in army clothing. It shows about the camaraderie of these men and their commitment to accomplish their missions. The film was directed by Edward Zwick.

There are a lot of amazing war movies and TV series. It’s just amazing to see how real soldiers in army clothing are portrayed in films. It gives a look at how these brave people live and what’s like in their world.
