You can figure it out yourself. First, check the specs of any TV set for the power load when it's operating. Example: 250 watts. So the set uses 250 watt-hours or 0.25 kilowatt-hours (kwh) in one hour.

Now go to your latest electric bill and divide what you paid by the number of kilowatt-hours during the statement period. The answer is the cost of one kwh.

Now estimate the number of hours your TV ran during the same period. Multiply the figure by your kwh per hour factor for the TV (0.25 in this example), multiply the result by the cost of one kwh on your electric bill, and you have the cost to run the set for a month.

Example:

1. TV draws 250 watts = 250 watt-hours per hour = 0.25 kwh per hour.
2. Power used on electric bill = 500 kwh. Charge = $75.00.
3. Cost per kwh = 75 / 500 = 15 cents (0.15).
4. You operate your TV four hours per day x 30 days = 120 hours.
5. 120 hours x 0.25 kwh per hour x $0.15 per kwh = $4.50 for the month.
