Suggestion:
LCD or LED is best. Plasma runs hot, even on the newer TVs. They also only last about 10,000 viewing hours. While that sounds like a lot, it's really not. 3D TVs are too expensive long term. If you have a party or friends over, they ALL have to have the glasses to view the TV. The glasses are about $100 for one pair or if you're lucky for 2 pairs. 3D TV is also a fad that will go away in a few years, just like it did back in the 80s with movies. It's not worth the expense long term.
I got a 40 inch LED flatscreen for Christmas 2 years ago. It's a Vizio & has been the 2nd best TV I've ever owned, first one being Sanyo that lasted over 20 years.
Watch for TVs to come down in price over the holiday season. That's when I got mine & got an awesome deal on it. Don't be afraid to take the floor model either. Sometimes you can get more money off that way. I took the floor model on my Vizio. It was missing the remote but the guy told me to call Vizio to get one. I did, told them I got the TV as a gift & the remote was missing. Vizio sent me one for free. I was prepared to pay for the remote if needed too. Sure I could've gotten a universal one when I bought the TV, but I wanted the remote specifically for my TV.
