Lcd Vs Plasma: Why Are They Pushing Lcds?

I'm not sure if I understand why you would want a LCD over a Plasma. Plasma TVs have a better refresh rate and display darker colors better, correct? I understand that LCDs consume less power but usually have a worse quality picture? We're about to buy our first HD TV and whenever I go to Wal-Mart or Target they seem to only have LCDs. Why are they pushing LCDs more than Plasmas since LCDs aren't as good picture quality?

Also, the room we are going to put it in has controllable light. One big window that my Mom make VERY large curtains for so that makes it more favorable to get a Plasma right?

Last question, burn in effect isn't as bad with Plasmas anymore, correct? I tend to play my XBOX maybe once or twice a week for 2 to 3 hours. Thanks.

You are exactly right. Plasmas have far better color contrast ratio and awesome picture refresh rates. The screen burn is a possibility but newer models do better with that.

The only LCD tvs that have better picture quality are LED-LCD tvs. And even edge lighting LED tvs aren't THAT great. Local dimming LED tvs are the best thing out right now so if you can afford it I would go with that.

All in all, you know what you like more. Don't listen to someone else's opinion. If you like the picture on plasma more get a plasma, if you like the LCD you see then there is nothing wrong with getting that.
