I'm Going to Buy a Tv Tomorrow and I'm Not Completely Oblivious to the Lingo but I Could Be Better Informed?

Oh, also

what are you takes on LCD vs. Plasma?

We had a 42in plasma and I thought it was nice (well before it was stolen) it had a problem with burn in though.

Answer:

Plasmas have better color depth, but are bigger energy hogs, give off way more heat and have burn-in problems. The burn-in has been mitigated in recent years by shifting the screen around one pixel at a time, but I still wouldn't recommend them for hardcore gamers.

LED-LCDs are the best out there but are WAY too expensive right now.

Samsung, in my opinion, is the best maker of LCD/LED-LCD TV's.

HZ: Refresh rate or the 60/120/240 is the number of times per second that the TV itself redraws the screen. High-def video comes in at 24 frames per second, meaning that each frame exists for over two refresh cycles before it changes. The thought is that the faster the refresh rates, the more the LCD crystals are able to show an accurate pixel, thus reducing blur. Quite frankly, I was unable to tell the difference in the action scenes between a 60Hz tv and a 120Hz one, but some people apparently can. Anything over 120Hz I feel is marketing Hype used to keep the prices inflated.

The best way to find out if 60Hz is okay is to watch the TV during a fast moving action scene and see if it's blurry to you. If not, then go for it.

The only limitations may be the HDMI input numbers. I like One for DVD/bluray, One for game, One for satellite/cable, but you might be able to work with an HDMi switch if you have lots of components.

Hands down for gaming, take the plasma. Better blacks, etc, fast response time, bigger color bit panel, and panasonic is the name is plasma. They have a wash system that prevents burn in.
the LCD might have better contrast ratio, but it cant refresh and show colors like the xenon gas can in the plasma.

Avoid plasma, if you like to play and watch tv constaly or without turing off between 3-4 hours. Plasma has burn in -out problem, and that's make life horrible.

Well, I defiantly suggest Samsung LCD, you can see many of my post in form suggesting Samsung, I feel it's a very futuristic television and offer not just value but more live on technology cycle. Now days edge backlighting and such functions are making LCD much better option to plasma, unless anyone is bias on plasma.

I will suggest you to go Samsung LN46B530, it's a upgraded version than LN46B500P3FXZA and offers better sound and picture quality.

Main features are like this
Three HDMI (2 rear/1 side), one VGA (D-sub), one component, and one composite video input

Improved picture with 60,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, 6ms response time and Wide Color Enhancer 2 technology (better contrast than Plasma and faster response time too)

Two 10W bottom speakers and SRS TruSurround HD for a rich surround-sound experience from two speakers (excellent thing, I like the most, sounds great and very rich surround sound effect)

I surly recommend it.
