1080i Vs 1080p and Tv's?

Currently looking at hd tv's and im gettign confused by this 1080i and 1080p, i know the i of 1080i means interlaced and am i right in thinking the p in 1080p is progressive scan.

Whats better for a tv ?

Thanks.

Suggestion:

If your TV is 37 inches or larger, get 1080p… All TV stations broadcast in 720p or 1080i…..The only 1080p you will see is from a Blu Ray DVD player, or a PS-3 game machine…But most all TV's over 37 inches should be purchased with 1080p… In smaller TV's 720p is sufficient….

1080p Full HD TV

1080p Full HD 42" upwards with intergrated Freeview HD.Better if the has around 3 HDMI ports,2 Scart inputs,an enabled ethernet port. Some TV's give access to BBC iplayer and ITV player via an active internet connection

Freeview/HD requires an external antenna

The only way to get 1080p is with a Blu-ray transmissions are always 1080i but a 1080 tv will display both.

A Samsung LED Series 6 has it all

Make sure your new TV has a HD tuner i.e. it will receive channels 50…54

1080p is best. They both offer the same picture quality.
The difference is that when the camera pans, 1080i will jutter slightly. Not massively noticeable but that's the only real difference
