Suggestion:
LED, from a decent maker like Samsung, Panasonic or LG.
Plasma panels are still 'vacuum tube' and phosphor dot technology, like traditional big box / 'Tube' TVs.
The difference is that each 'cell' or pixel is individually addressed & works something like a tiny neon or fluorescent bulb, rather than the single electron gun assembly and scanning beam of a TV Tube.
The phosphors used to produce the visible light are still similar and can still scorch or degrade over time.
The panels also take a lot of power and tend to run hot.
The present LCDs, especially LED backlit ones, have incredible contrast ratios and very fast response – all the problems that early LCD panels had have been overcome years ago.
Definitely go with LED.

samsung led tv because of the features and the contrast and the quality of the monitor. I have a sony led tv but I admit samsung is the best
LED LG. Great contrast, clear picture, lot of possibilities and good price. Access to internet, pasiv 3D realy cool.
