It depends on the room you're putting it in. LCD is best for bright rooms or areas where you'll be watching it in the day. You'll get a more brilliant picture through an LCD. Plasma on the other hands is darker and is better for night watching because it has better/truer colors than any other screen on the market.

Best Brands (In order, according to consumer reports):
LCD- Sony, Samsung, LG, Sharp, Panasonic, Toshiba
Plasma- Panasonic, Samsung, LG

instead of LCD get LED LCD that way you will have picture
similar to plasma and LED uses much less power and weighs
less and no chance of burn in. Plasma is has great picture
and has better response times over LED but can still have a
risk of burn in if you are not cautious and stupid with leaving
log's and video games on for hours. LED has also pretty good
refresh rates and response times to combat blur and you don't
have to be paranoid about burn in. Right now best brands for plasma
are Panasonic, samsung, LG. Best LED's are samsung or LG.

Hi I am a tech Lcds last longer than plasmas.
Stay with major brands sony,panasonic toshiba.
samsung is in my repair shop all the time.
Philips has a good picture I have one myself going on 4 years.
