Looking at New Tvs.should I Get a Plasma or Lcd?we Will Watch a Lot of Sports and Play Video Games on This Tv.?

We watch a lot of sports, so it sounds like plasma is best for that, but my son plays Wii and I don’t want the images to get burned into the screen, so it sounds like LCD would be best for that. I don’t want to spend a huge amount…in the $400-$600 range. Which TV would best fit our needs?

Suggestion:

In that price range for what you'll be using it for (gaming – particularly with kids who would probably forget about the burn-in issue), I would recommend an LCD. A plasma is susceptible to burn in, since the pixels are actually little pockets of phosphorescent gas (plasma) that are ionized by the electronic signals to produce specific colors and intensities. And, these are subject to possible burn-in, similar to the phosphorescent coating on a CRT screen.

Also, consider that a plasma screen has a smooth glass surface, where an LCD has a matte plastic surface. So, the plasma reflects a lot of light and glare, while the LCD screen reflects relatively little ambient light. If you get a plasma TV, it should only be used in a designated home theater room that has very low ambient light, otherwise the reflections will drive you nuts. LCD TVs are also generally cheaper than their plasma counterparts these days.
