I've noticed Samsungs having a lot brighter colors than Sony LCDs, but internally, the Sony's build quality and components are a lot better, and will last longer. Like other users have said, I think you should consider Plasma TVs. They have very little motion blur (still some), and create slightly sharper pictures than LCDs. Although LCDs have 120hz also, which I think looks stunning, but 240hz just looks to unreal for me to enjoy.
I say go for a Sony 120hz.
Samsung is much better in quality than the Sony. Sony quality has dropped over the years. Owned 2 Sony tv 32" CRT and 34" CRT HD tv that i paid $6,400 (the first HD tv in the market) and they both didn't last long, along with the first dvd players the 7000 and 7700 and they didn't last long either. My first Plasma tv purchase in 2002 from Pioneer for $6,400 is still going strong. Hope this will help you out
I install Audio/Video for a living. I've noticed that all tv's DIE or need repairs at almost the same basic rate. As long as you stay within a name brand i.e.. Sony, Toshiba, Samsung among others. I would stay away from in house brands such as insignia, and other such names. The Sony LCD's in my opinion are quite awesome especially on the higher end tv's. We've been installing a lot of Samsung LCD's because they are so thin and just look awesome wherever you put them. My advice if your looking for supreme picture quality go with a high end sony or samsung led. You wont regret it (your wallet might).
Samsung.

Added point: You should be interested in plasma, as plasma tvs are better than LCD tvs.
