Answer:
It would be better if you bought a power plug that is also a surge protector to do that. when you plug the set in there is a very small chance of a power surge that can damage the set.

First of all, LCD TVs use such little power that over the course of a year you are probably only saving about US$10. So, it's probably not worth the effort.
You probably won't do damage to the TV, however digital TVs were designed to be plugged in 24×7. When they are "off" (actually in standby), they are listening to what is being transmitted, updating data tables for stations and searching for new stations. They can't do that if they are unplugged. So, when you plug it back in, it will be working with old data and will have to update things while you are trying to surf channels.
Just leave it plugged in and sleep well.
It does not harm to leave you tv plugged in. If you unplug the tv you could loose the memory of the preset tv stations you had programmed. Tv uses very little power when it is plugged in.
i bought mine last summer to update my computer. i don't understand but this machine works better now. any way i asked the saleswoman. she said they are designed to last 17 years and it doesn't matter if it is on or off
